Chic mismatched bridesmaid dresses

In this three part series, Sarah talks through some of our customer stories and explains how she helped them mismatch different bridesmaid dresses by mixing styles, different types of fabric and colours. Here, in part 1, Sarah talks through how to mix different chic styles using the same fabric and colour.

I was recently delighted to be a bridesmaid for one of my best friends, Rebecca, and she asked me to work with her on deciding the best colour and styles for myself and the other two bridesmaids to wear.

Rebecca's wedding was taking place in a lovely old converted barn in the Cotwolds and she was looking for a natural colour theme for the bridesmaid dresses, which matched the theme of the venue.

The venue featured exposed brick-work with oak beams and slate floors, and would be dressed by the florist in beautiful ivory flowers and plenty of greenery.

As a result, we discussed a number of neutral tones, including blush pink and ivory, but eventually a nude colour was chosen in our crepe fabric.

We have a whole host of dresses available in many colours in our crepe fabric, and Rebecca was keen for us bridesmaids to select the dress we felt comfortable wearing.

After trying on a few dresses, myself and the other bridesmaids had chosen our selected styles, all in the same fabric and colour. All three styles sat lovely together, giving that strong mismatched look.

Bridesmaid Hannah wore the Jeanne wrap dress which looks so modern and stunning. The deep-v neckline looked so flattering with floaty sleeves and a very full hem which is fully lined in our light-weight soft crepe. This dress is our most popular and is flattering on bridesmaids of all shapes and sizes. We also sell the Juliette dress, which is the same as the Jeanne dress except with a higher neckline, which provides more bust coverage.

Bridesmaid Sarah wore the Rosie skirt and top set. Sarah walked down the isle looking so cool and chic. The top is floaty and has a slight racer cut at the arm hole which flatters the shoulders, whilst being strapless bra friendly. The skirt is a slim fit, but not figure hugging, and is fully lined in the same fabric and finished with a full-flowing hem.

I wore the Sienna dress. I have always loved the low-back look. The Sienna dress has two narrow straps with adjusters so this can be worn lower or higher as needed. With a slight v sweetheart neckline, a waist-flattering empire seam and a full flowing hem, giving all three styles that similar flowy, feminine feel.

Rebecca was really pleased with the end result. The final look gave that perfect connection with the feel of the venue, the flowers and lovely weather.

It just proves that the days of bridesmaids wearing exactly the same dress are no longer traditional and mismatched bridesmaid dresses are the trend going forward.By simply altering dress styles but using the same fabric and colour, you can extend the creative edge of your wedding day in new ways.

The heather blue colours looked lovely for this outdoor wedding in the South of France and worked well against the backdrop of the buildings, fields, green grass and blue sky.
